Outlaw 3 Gun Competition

Outlaw 3 Gun shooting measures the ability to shoot rapidly and accurately with a handgun, rifle, and shotgun. To do this, shooters take on four or more obstacle-laden shooting stages requiring numerous shots from multiple firearms to complete. The scoring system measures time spent to shoot the stage, plus the number of points gained.

Club Championship determined by total points for the year

For 2011 matches will be held on the second Saturday of the month. There will be 10 matches next year, every month but January and February. Mark your calendars.

Shooting Categories

Iron: Iron sights only on all weapons
Optics: One optical sight (shooter's choice) allowed on the rifle (most shoot in this category)
Open: Pretty much whatever you want, as long as it's safe and meets minimum caliber requirements as listed below.
Heavy Metal: Must have some sort of .30 caliber rifle, .45 ACP handgun, and a pump shotgun

Match Equipment

Rifle: Semi-auto rifle is required, and the minimum caliber is .223. Almost everyone shoots an AR of one kind or another, and almost all are 5.56/.223. However, if you want to shoot your mini-14, your LE entry gun, or your SIG rifle, no problem.

Shotgun: 12 gauge required. Most competitors will be shooting semi-autos, but pump guns are certainly allowed. Max barrel length is 22" and max tube load is 8 rounds. You will need a choke to be effective, most commonly used are modified and improved modified. Most of our shotgun arrays can be shot with 7-1/2 bird shot, but be prepared to need heavier loads for some stages as well as a handful of slug shots. Remington and FN tactical guns dominate the field, but there's nothing wrong with a Mossberg or Benelli. A Remington 870 will do the trick if that's what you have.

Handgun: A semi-auto pistol is the ticket, preferably a high capacity double-stack model. Minimum caliber is 9mm, so you won't be needing the .50 Desert Eagle. Glock and M&P 9mm models are perfect. Got a Beretta, Sig, CZ, XD, or FN? No problem, they will all do just fine. The 1911 lovers can rejoice in knowing your favorite gun is perfectly legal for our 3 Gun matches, even if you still insist on the 7 rd mags.

Ammo & Round Count: FMJ handgun rounds in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP will do fine. NO steel core or tracer ammo is allowed.

Typical match round counts are 70 rounds of rife; 120 rounds of handgun; 50 rounds of shotshells; and 5 slugs. Don't be afraid to bring more ammo. Especially if you're planning to shoot the side matches.

Other Equipment: Other equipment you will be needing includes a holster for your handgun, multiple magazines for your rifle and handgun, shotshell carrier(s), knee pads, water bottle. You should also give strong consideration to purchasing a weapons cart to haul your stuff around. A commonly used system starts with a used jogging stroller, modified to hold two long guns and lots of ammo and accessories. Shoot a couple of 3 Gun matches and you'll understand the need for a cart.
