Garand / Springfield / Vintage Military Rifle Competition
The Garand / Springfield / Vintage Military Rifle Competition is several shooting events
using different positions and timing formats to test and develop flexibility and
marksmanship skills using former military rifles conforming to the CMP rules.

Riflery Clinic
The April 10th riflery clinic is designed for beginning and intermediate
shooters. Using training material from the Civilian Marksmanship
Program, we will cover topics of shooting fundamentals, various sling
position essential for shooting in matches, as well as match rules,
etiquette, and protocol. The clinic will include live firing.
Essential equipment includes a rifle that meets CMP rules for Garand,
Springfield, or foreign military rifles, and a USGI sling or leather
sling. Strongly suggested equipment includes shooting equipment such as
shooting jacket, mitt, scope, pencil or pen, paper, hat with brim,
sunscreen, and bottled water. There is no fee to participants.

Rifle rules:
Rifles must be those comforming to the As-Issued Military Rifle Rules as defined in
Section 9.1.1 (1) of the 2009 CMP Rule Book.
These rifles being in one of the following categories:
- Section 6.3.2, M1 Garand in as-issued condition
- Section 6.3.3, M1903 Springfield in as-issued condition
- Section 6.3.4, Other US Rifle (Model 1917 or Krag) in as-issued condition
- Section 6.3.5, M1 Carbine as-issued condition
- Section 6.3.6, Foreign Military Rifles, must be manually operated and in as-issued condition
Pistol rules:
Competitors firing in the military pistol match shall use pistols that were issued to a military,
and conform to Section 6.5 of the CMP Rulebook,
and shall provide their own safe ammunition.
Pistols shall be fired using standard issue sights, and without ANY accuracy modifications or national
match parts.
The pistol match is covered by the rifle match entry fee, and will take place if there are at least 5
competitors who wish to compete in the pistol match.
Schedule of Events:
Practice:Practice will begin at approximately 10:00.
Registration & Safety Briefing: Registration and safety briefing from 10:30 to 10:45
Match: The match begins at 11:00 p.m.
General Information:
Eligibility: Competition is open to the public.
Amenities: Water and soft drinks will be available at the range. Restrooms are available.
Awards: Winners will be awarded prizes as determined by the Match Director.
Required Equipment: Hearing protection; eye protection; rifle, ammunition.
Highly Recommended Equipment: Long sleeve shirt and long pants, hat, sunscreen, shooting mat or carpet
(about 3 x 6), ammo for practice, food and drink.
Directions: The DPRC Range is located at 3973 Jim Minor Road, Haw River, NC.
The range is located approximately 20 miles west of Chapel Hill and 10 miles east of Burlington.

- From I-85 Northbound take Mebane Oaks Road Exit# 154, Turn
Right onto Mebane Oaks Road going south.
- From I-85 Southbound take Mebane Oaks Road Exit# 154, Turn Left
onto Mebane Oaks Road going South.
Proceed 4.6 miles and turn right onto
Jim Minor Road. Proceed 1.5 miles and range will be on the left with chain
link fence and DPRC sign.
Course of Fire:
- There are three matches. Each match is a 30 shot "Garand Match", fired at 200 yards on an SR target. 10 shots prone slow-fire, 10 shots prone rapid-fire, and 10 shots standing slow-fire.
Entry Fee: $10.00 per match, $20.00 for 3 matches. No charge for Juniors (under 20). Checks accepted
